  • Fifteen tons of TNT and 150 tons of ammonium nitrate explode at the Explosives Loading Company factory at Uplees, near Faversham in Kent, killing more than 100 people. The explosion is the worst in the history of the British explosives industry. The Great Kent Explosion of 1916
