  • Prominent townspeople of Orange meet at the Town Hall to decide how to allocate the various war funds. In deference to the King’s wishes, it is decided that no holiday or public celebrations are to be held on Empire Day (24 May), however the combined church service on Sunday, 21 May in the Australian Hall would still take place.   • Austrian troops force Italians to retreat south of Rovereto in the Trentino offensive in northern Italy
  • Russian forces occupy Rowanduz east of Mosul in northern Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) and Khanaqin, north-east of Baghdad
  • Allied forces commence a blockade of the Hejaz coast to assist with Hussein bin Ali, Sharif of Mecca’s Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire
