- John Thomas Burrell enlists. John is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in France on 23 August 1918.

- Italian forces on the Southern Front launch a strong attack north and south of Gorizia and in northern sector of Carno, east of Faiti Hrib in Slovenia
- Flying a Curtiss Flying Boat type H12 No 8666, RNAS Flight Commander Robert Leckie shoots down the German zeppelin L-22 18 nautical miles north-northwest of Texel Island in the North Sea. It is the first time that a flying boat shoots down a zeppelin. Destruction of Zeppelin L.22 by Flying Boat
