  • British ships HMS Mersey and Severn employ 150mm guns to knock out SMS Konigsberg’s armament, reduce her to a wreck and scuttle her with a torpedo. The German cruiser had been trapped in the Tanzanian delta and blockaded by the British since 31 October 1914. After the battle, the British are the strongest naval power in the Indian Ocean.
  • Herbert Henry Argall enlists. Herbert is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in France on 23 June 1916.
