  • Joseph Christopher Cox enlists. Joseph is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in Belgium on 18 September 1917.
  • The Eighth Battle of the Isonzo begins in north-eastern Italy. Italy sustains 25,000 casualties during the three day battle, Austria-Hungary the same number.
  • Romanian troops return home after being forced out of Hungary by two Austro-German armies. The Austro-German 9th Army proceeds to invade Romania.
  • Allied governments send an ultimatum to the Greek government demanding the surrender of the Greek naval fleet
