  • A conference of representatives concerned for the welfare of returned servicemen recommend the formation of an organisation to support serving and ex-service defence force members and their families. The Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia (RSSILA) – forerunner of the RSL – is established to provide returned servicemen and their dependents with assistance, including pensions, medical services, homes and suitable employment.
