  • The Australian Branch of the British Red Cross is established. Precursor to the Australian Red Cross, it aims to raise funds to purchase comfort supplies for Australian service personnel overseas.
  • Austrian forces cross the River Drina and begin first invasion of Serbia
  • Four squadrons of the Royal Flying Corps fly from Dover to France. This is one of the first-ever military air deployments into a conflict zone.
