  • British troops in Mesopotamia fend off Turkish attempts to recapture Basra. The British proceed to consolidate their position, advancing along the Tigris Valley toward Baghdad. The Battle of Shaiba
  • The British steamer Wayfarer is torpedoed 60 miles from the Scilly Isles. Two soldiers and five horses of the Warwickshire Yeomanry are killed in the attack. Wayfarer is towed to Queenstown for repairs.
