  • The August Offensive ends in failure as British and New Zealand troops are pushed off the peak of Chunuk Bair by Turkish troops led by Lieutenant-Colonel Mustafa Kemal. The Allies are forced over the rim of the mountain towards the sea, where they are decimated by machine-gun fire and naval bombardment.
  • British aircraft intercept the German airship L-12. The airship loses height and ditches in the North Sea. A German torpedo boat tows the L-12 to Ostend in Belgium; the airship is damaged beyond repair .
