  • German troops launch an intense bombardment on the Western Front, gaining ground to the east of the mouth of the Yser River near Nieuport in Belgium, and taking more than1,000 prisoners.
  • British forces launch a counter-attack, driving the enemy from advanced positions gained nearby at Lombartzyde
  • Russian soldiers on the Eastern Front capture Halicz in Galicia. They pursue the enemy across the River Lomnica, and capture 2,000 prisoners.
  • British authorities claim that 117,772 prisoners of war and 759 enemy guns have been captured since the beginning of the war
