William John Spicer

William John Spicer was born in Lewis Ponds in 1893, the third son (and fourth child) of James Spicer and his wife Margaret (nee MacElligott).

William and his older brother, Samuel, enlisted together in Liverpool in July 1915. An older brother, James, enlisted the following January.

A medical conducted in November 1915 found William to be unfit for active service, due to chronic sciatica and lumbago. William was subsequently discharged.

In 1917 William married Ethel A Marr. He worked in the Orange, Dubbo and Euchareena districts until his death in Orange in 1964.

William’s cousin, Thomas Samuel Spicer, also enlisted in WWI.
