  • The Battle of Tel el Khuweilfe ends in Palestine after eight days’ fighting, resulting in a British victory
  • The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) requisitions the Castle class trawler Brolga as an auxiliary minesweeper. Brolga and her sister ships Gunnundaal and Koraaga patrol the coastlines of New South Wales and Victoria in search of German-laid mines.
  • The Australian Government passes the Nomenclature Act, whereby place names of foreign origin are allocated patriotic names. The New South Wales towns of Germantown and Krichauff, are renamed Holbrook and Beatty, commemorating two officers of the Royal Navy.
