  • As Australian troops arrive in France to fight on the Western Front General Birdwood and Lord Kitchener issue some advice, Birdwood’s Message to Anzacs

“You may find temptations, both in wine and women. You must entirely resist both temptations… Do your duty bravely. Fear God. Honor the King.”

  • Acting Prime Minister, Senator George Pearce, announces that Turkish authorities are carefully preserving the graves of the fallen heroes of Anzac. Graves of the Anzacs
  • After three days of intense combat German forces capture the strategic post of Cote 304 in the Battle of Verdun. More than 10,000 French soldiers are killed during the combat.
