  • The British submarine B-11 proceeds two miles up the Dardanelles Straits. This is the first warship to enter the Straits.
  • Indian Expeditionary Force “D” troops land at Fao in Mesopotamia and begin to lay siege to the fortress. Their aim is to protect British oil interests in neighbouring Persia, and encourage an Arab revolt against Turkish rule.
