  •  Turkish forces begin shelling Anzac Cove from a new position behind their lines. This battery would become known as ‘Beachy Bill’.
  • The 2nd Australian Brigade and the New Zealand Brigade are redeployed from Anzac Cove to Cape Helles to assist British and French troops in their attempts to capture the ridge known as Achi Baba.
  • The Leader publishes a lengthy account of the town’s farewell to deputy Town Clerk, Herbert Rockliff, held at the Easdown’s Hotel. Over 50 people attended the farewell, including several aldermen and prominent local citizens. During the official toasts Mr Mullholland, the Town Clerk, stated that Dr Howse is of the opinion that “if our troops got through the Dardanelles the war would be over in three months – at any rate, before the next winter.” A large crowd gathered at the railway station as the Orange town band farewelled their former bandmaster. Bandmen’s Farewell
