  • The Leader reports that War Chest Day celebrations in Orange were again thwarted by rain, leading to the cancellation of the evenings’ outdoor musical programme. The procession, however, continued despite the rain and included “Inspector Bear, mounted on his magnificent white horse, the Model Band, returned soldiers, members of the militia, cadets, decorated motor cars, Red Indians, ladies on horseback (17), decorated lorries, the Salvation Army Band and a Tin-can band.” So far £802/3/5 has been raised, but the treasurer claims that the committee will not be satisfied until the total reaches £1000.
