- The newly-formed Universal Service League claims the present position of volunteering to be insufficient and demands that the federal government modify the Defence Act to permit conscription for overseas service. The Labor Council responds:
In view of the fact that the British Government have not deemed it advisable to introduce conscription we see no reason for the action of the Universal Service League in advocating the adoption of conscription in Australia
