- Norman Thomas Trethewey enlists. Norman is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would die of wounds in Belgium on 30 October 1917.
- The Leader reports that:
In future the settlement of German’s Hill will be known as Lidster. The new name will perpetuate the memory of one of our gallant heroes who fell in the historic occupation of the Dardanelles by our Australian troops – Cecil Reginald John Lidster
- Vice Admiral Reinhard Scheer replaces Admiral Hugo von Pohl as commander in chief of the High Seas Fleet – Hochseeflotte
- Russians advance on forts of Erzerum
