- British troops capture Fricourt and relinquish captured trenches at Gommecourt in the Battle of the Somme. French forces take Curlu, Frise, Bois de Mereaucourt and Herbecourt.
- The Baranovichi Offensive begins on the Eastern Front in present day Belarus. The battle lasts for three weeks; Russian forces are ultimately unable to break through the fortified German position
- German troops continue their advance on Lutsk salient on the Eastern Front; regaining Tlumacz south of Dniester
- Turkish troops take Kermanshah in Persia; driving the Russians east towards Hamadan
