- John Daniel (‘Jack’) McLachlan enlists. John is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in France on 9 April 1917.

- Victor Hugo de Azevedo Coutinho is appointed Portuguese Prime Minister. He takes over from Dr Bernardino Luís Machado Guimarães, who resigned the previous day.
