  • The Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force led by Lieutenant General Frederick Stanley Maude occupy Baghdad. The 1st Australian Wireless Signal Squadron, also known as the Anzac Wireless Squadron, is attached to his army.
  • Tsar Nicholas II sanctions the use of force against the “bread and peace” protesters in Petrograd. Soldiers from the army garrison are called out to quell the uprising; they open fire, killing some 1,500 people.
