  • Captain “Bill” Hitchen and 25 men leave Gilgandra to march 515km to Sydney in the Coo-ee recruitment march
  • The Dardanelles Committee asks Lord Kitchener to report on the possibility of withdrawal from Gallipoli. He responds that abandoning the campaign “would be the most disastrous event in the history of the Empire.” Nevertheless, he cables General Sir Ian Hamilton to request the estimated cost of evacuation.
