  • Ursula Mary Carter enlists. Ursula becomes Matron of Orange District Hospital following her war service.
  • William Henry O’Bree enlists. William is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action at Gallipoli on 2 May 1915.
  • Australian troops begin training at AIF camps around Australia. The main training camp for NSW is located at Liverpool
  • The Ottoman Empire enters World War I as an ally of Germany. Ottoman ships bombard Russian ports on the Black Sea. Ottoman troops then invade Russia. Fighting later breaks out in the Ottoman territories on the Arabian Peninsula and in Mesopotamia, Palestine and Syria.
